Stonecamp is an event held at the Ponderosa. Located at 121 Kreyer Lane, Hurley, NY 12443.
How do I drive there?
Take the thruway to exit 19, Take 28 West toward Pine Hill, Turn Left at the Hickory BBQ, quick Right onto 28A, first left on Morgan Hill Road, (pass Schneildneicht road twice) and turn left onto Kreyer Lane, left at the signs, and left into the second driveway just before black mailbox.
Can I get to Stonecamp on public transportation?
You can! From the port authority in NYC board the Pine Hill Trailways bus to Kingston, NY. Make sure we know you are coming and we will pick you up at the bus station.
What’s the closest airport?
Stewart Airport, Newburgh NY or Albany International Airport. Either is a 45 minute drive from the Ponderosa. A rental car or other specific arrangements would need to be made as far as transportation to and from.
What should I bring?
This is an all outdoor event. We will spend our days swimming in the pond, playing games, hanging by the fire, or enjoying a cocktail at Carl’s Rock Bottom, our private outdoor club. All cooking will be done on either the grill or the campfire. You should bring everything you’ll need to survive outside for the weekend. Coolers, ice, food, tents, sleeping bags, bug spray, suntan lotion, drinks, rain gear, biodegradable soap, etc etc.
How rustic is it?
We provide a campfire and a grill for cooking. There is a communal kitchen set up with a burner, pots/pans, silverware, glasses, coffee maker and electric griddle. There are two sinks with running water near the kitchen for washing up. There is also an outdoor shower, with cold water. There is a clothing optional hot tub, and of course a swim pond (also clothing optional). There will be port-o-potties and two outhouses. You are a 5 minute drive from several stores, convenience marts, and food markets.
What if I never camped before?
This is a good way to learn. Let us know if there is any equipment you are lacking, as we always have plenty to share. Ask especially before buying a styrofoam cooler as we have dozens left over from past years. If you are flying in from afar, you can borrow a tent from us.
What if I don’t want to learn?
There is an RV rental place just down the road on route 28 as you exit the thruway. Perhaps a weekend in an RV is more your speed?
How can I participate during the event?
Everyone participates. This is a no spectator event. The point of the weekend is to potentiate your creativity, and thereby inspire others to create as well. We use the weekend to feed off of each other and to inspire each other. Spend some time making your art. Planning your art ahead of time will be sure to catapult you to the top of the scene. Help others. Bring food and drink to share. Carl’s runs off of booze and worker donations. If you want to drink it- bring it. Take a shift as bartender, or cook. Wash some dishes. Help with the recycling and garbage duties. Take a turn with the kids. Organize a game or experience that you can invite others to participate with you. Bring costumes to wear and share! Sing a song, play your instrument, make an entrance. Design your camping area to be a destination for others. Host a cocktail party. Teach yoga. Give a massage. Bring an arts and crafts project. DJ. Perform a choreographed musical number. Throw some wood on the fire.
Can I help set up?
There are two work weekends scheduled this year. Come up and cut some trees up and set up for the big bonfire. Prep weekends are June 18-20, and June 25-27. We need volunteer builders, chainsawers and log splitters, laborers, child care, chefs to feed us and decorators good with christmas tree lights.
Can I bring my dog?
There are several resident dogs here on property. Too many dogs gets a little overwhelming especially for the young children. If your dog gets along well with other dogs and children, and is a good citizen, and you want to take the time and energy to be responsible for them, feel free to have them join in on the fun.
